The Kerala style black halwa is a favourite one in the region. Almost all confection lovers are  die hard fans of black rice halwa. Let’s have a peep on how it is made. The most important ingredient of course needed is black jaggery, which gives that jet black colour to halwa. Take enough rice flour in a measuring cup according to your requirement. Add coconut milk and jaggery. It has to be simmered and stirred continuously to avoid lumps. Cook these items on a medium flame for almost an hour. Cook, until the mixture gets reduced to ⅓ and the oil begins to separate and float on the surface. Strain off this excess oil before transferring it to a tray. When the mixture turns into a gel consistency, immediately transfer it to a tray or plate greased with oil or ghee. Allow it to cool completely.Yummy halwa is ready. Slice into pieces and serve. 

People now prefer to buy halwas from a shop because the process of making halwa is too tiring. Even if lots of ‘ new generation ‘ sweets have occupied places in the glass almirahs of bakeries, people’s love for rice halwa has not been diminished even a bit.
